Anthony Martial is a player with extraordinary quality and talent. However, the Frenchman seems to be missing one thing at the moment that has prevented him from becoming an absolute superstar and that is consistency.

Martial enjoyed a brilliant 2019/20 campaign, which saw him finish as the club’s top scorer and it looked like he was the long-term answer up top. But then, he went on to have an underwhelming 2020/21 campaign when he struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis. He also missed a number of games towards the end of the season through injury.

The Frenchman scored 7 goals in his 36 appearances for the club across all competitions last season according to stats from Transfermarkt.

With Edinson Cavani’s incredible form towards the end of the previous campaign, it feels like he is going to be Solskjaer’s first-choice striker this season. As a result, it will be interesting to see where Martial fits in.

Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw was one of the most consistent players for Manchester United last season. The English international managed to remain fit for the majority of the campaign, and was arguably the best left-back in the entire Premier League.

Moreover, he was one of England’s best performers at UEFA EURO 2020 as they made it all the way to the final, with Shaw even scoring in the game. But ultimately, it was not enough as Italy ended up winning on penalties.

Shaw has not been consistent enough through the course of his time at Old Trafford and has had his fitness issues as well. However, he was absolutely spectacular throughout the course of last season, as he has established himself as one of the club’s best players. It will be interesting to see if he can keep up performing at that level this season as well.
