Since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013, Manchester United have not been able to return to the top of English football. In fact, they have had five different managers since then – David Moyes,  Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ryan Giggs in a caretaker role for four games.

None of them have managed to guide the club back to the Premier League title though, a trophy that they won 13 times under Ferguson.

The Red Devils have shown significant progress under Solskjaer over the past couple of years though and they finished second in the Premier League last season. And it is safe to say that after signing Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Tom Heaton this summer, they must be considered as genuine title contenders.

The Red Devils might have even bigger plans for the future though. As reported by ESPN, Kylian Mbappe is on Manchester United’s list of potential targets as the club plot a move for a superstar forward next summer.

Manchester United linked with move for Mbappe

It goes without saying that Mbappe is one of the best players in the world right now. Still just 22 years of age, he has already achieved a lot, including winning the World Cup with the France national team.

His current deal with Paris Saint-Germain is set to expire in the summer of 2022 and if he does not extend it before that, he will be a free agent next summer. If that ends up being the case then all of the biggest teams in Europe are expected to be interested in signing him.

At this point of time, rumours suggest that Real Madrid are his most likely destination if he was to leave Paris Saint-Germain. But as we all know, things can change very quickly and the possibility that the Red Devils could make a move for Mbappe is certainly very exciting.
