Manchester United bolstered their squad with the additions of Jadon Sancho, Tom Heaton and Raphael Varane in the summer transfer window.

It is safe to say that Sancho and Varane are the club’s two big name signings of this window. The Red Devils have managed to add both experience and youth to their squad at the same time. However, it is still possible that the club could make further moves before the transfer window closes.

One area that they could possibly look to strength in is central midfield. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could do with another option to choose from in the middle of the park.

Rio Ferdinand believes that someone like Saul Niguez could be a ‘perfect fit’ in this team. While speaking on his Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE YouTube channel and as reported by GOAL, he said:

"“The problem is who is out there and who could be a good fit? Saul Niguez would be a perfect fit and he’s asking price was £160 million ($221m) a couple of years ago, now it’s more like £40-50m ($55-69m).“In today’s game that’s a decent price for someone like him who has Champions League experience. I’m a big fan of his. If you can get him in this window, I think you do it.”"

Ferdinand also believes that Declan Rice could be a massive addition to this squad:

"“I think Declan Rice would be a massive addition to this squad. I’m a massive fan of his. I would love to see him keep progressing.“He was brilliant for England in the summer. I think if West Ham keep him they’ve done unbelievably well. I think he does well staying at West Ham or if he goes.”"

Ferdinand believes Saul and Rice could be good signings for Manchester United

Both Saul and Rice are definitely good midfielders who could prove to be solid additions to almost every club in the world. Both of them have been linked with Old Trafford moves in the recent past as well.

Rice has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League over the past few seasons, and the 22-year-old has also become a regular for the England national team and played a huge part in their run to the UEFA EURO 2020 final, forming a solid midfield partnership alongside Kalvin Phillips.

On the other hand, Saul has the experience of playing at the very top level during his time at Atletico Madrid. But the midfielder has not been at the top of his game recently and it is believed that he could be on his way out of the club in the near future.

If Manchester United are able to sign either of them, it would be considered as a major coup. Now, it remains to be seen what the future holds.
