Manchester United captain makes exciting Raphael Varane claim
By Ritam Ghosh
Manchester United’s move to sign Raphael Varane from Real Madrid is finally over the line and official. Now, the wait is to see him feature on the pitch for the Red Devils.
One of the most decorated defenders of his generation, he won it all at the club level during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu and even lifted the World Cup with the France national team in 2018.
While the Red Devils could not get the deal done in time for him feature against Leeds United in their Premier League season opener, they did make the best of the situation. The Frenchman was unveiled as a Manchester United player in front of the Old Trafford crowd to a great ovation from the supporters.
The French World Cup winner would be expected to form a partnership with Harry Maguire in the heart of the club’s defence and it certainly has the potential to be one of the best in all of Europe. Maguire himself seems excited by Varane’s arrival. As reported by The Guardian, he said:
"“He’s played in some of the top teams about – the French squad and Real Madrid – and he’s won absolutely everything. I think he’ll bring that winning mentality and his footballing ability to the club. To bring in players of his calibre is really, really exciting.”"

Varane could be a brilliant signing for Manchester United
With just a year left on his contract with Real Madrid and an extension not looking likely, the Red Devils finally managed to bring Varane to Old Trafford. The club have been linked with the Frenchman as far back as when Sir Alex Ferguson was the manager.
It might have taken more than a decade but that move has finally materialised. And it is safe to say that someone like Varane could be a spectacular addition to Solskjaer’s team.
Defence has been viewed as one of Manchester United’s weaknesses for quite some time, but following the arrival of Varane, it could actually be one of their biggest strengths. There are very few defenders in the world today with the combination of world-class quality and top level experience that the Frenchman possesses. Let’s just hope that he can settle into English football quickly and make his presence felt at the Theatre of Dreams.
