Manchester United kick-start their 2021/22 Premier League campaign against Leeds United at Old Trafford. And whenever these two sides meet, it is a big game.

The Red Devils have bolstered their squad with the signings of Jadon Sancho and Tom Heaton in the summer, with a move for Raphael Varane expected to be completed soon as well.

Having finished second in the Premier League last season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would surely be aiming to go one step further this time around and bring the trophy back to Old Trafford.

Manchester United will miss a number of their star players in their season opener against Leeds United though. But the incredible squad depth means that they should still be able to put out a great starting XI on the pitch.

Manchester United Predicted XI vs Leeds United

David de Gea looks set to start between the posts against Marcelo Bielsa’s side, and the goalkeeper will be hoping to register a clean sheet to begin the season. The Spaniard has come under some criticism for his performances in the past few seasons, and with Dean Henderson competing for the first-team spot, he will have to step up.

With a move for Varane yet to be completed, it will most probably be a familiar looking centre-back partnership for the Red Devils. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are expected to get the nod and they will have to be at the top of their game, as Leeds United are known for their quick and direct attacking style of play. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw are expected to start in the two full-back positions.

Fred and Nemanja Matic could form the pivot in the middle of the park, with the Serbian being one of the standout players during the pre-season campaign. In the absence of Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba is expected to start on the left side of midfield, with Mason Greenwood starting on the right. Jadon Sancho could very well make his debut for the Red Devils against Leeds United, but it is expected to come off the bench rather than from the start.

Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United’s talisman since he joined the club, would be expected to start the game in the number 10 position.

Anthony Martial is the favourite to start as the striker. The Frenchman has a point to prove this season, given his struggles in front of goal in the 2020/21 campaign.

Predicted XI: David de Gea; Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw; Nemanja Matic, Fred; Mason Greenwood, Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba; Anthony Martial.
