David de Gea was arguably Manchester United’s best player of the previous decade. It is safe to say that the Spanish goalkeeper was one of the best in the world if the not the very best when on top of his game.
He has not been at the top of his game for a while now though. And towards the end of the previous campaign, it had looked like Dean Henderson had moved ahead of him in the pecking order.
Thus, there were some doubts over De Gea’s future at Old Trafford. Both him and Henderson are first-team quality goalkeepers with the ability to start for a team on a regular basis. Thus, many felt that one of them would end up departing the club this summer.
That has not happened yet though. And De Gea’s comments, who recently completed 10 years at the club, suggest that he is not planning to leave in the near future. As reported by Manchester United’s official website, the goalkeeper said:
"“It’s been a lot of years at the club and a great source of pride for me to have been able to play for a club like Manchester United for so many seasons now.“But you have to live in the present, I think I still have a lot of years ahead of me at the club, I’m excited about that, feeling strong and I’m very keen to do well. I feel great in myself, high in confidence and I think it should be – and has to be – an important season for all of us.”"

It looks like De Gea is planning to remain at Manchester United
It does look like De Gea is planning to remain at the club and in that case, it will be interesting to see who Solskjaer feels is his number one when both are fit.
De Gea’s performances have not been at their peak for the past few seasons now. But still 30 years of age, the Spanish goalkeeper should have a lot of football left in the tank.
One would be hoping that he can rediscover his form soon and return to being one of the best goalkeepers in the world. On the other hand, Henderson would not be expected to want to sit on the bench next season either after it had looked like he had made the first-team gloves his own towards the end of last season.
