It is safe to say that when Manchester United signed Edinson Cavani on a free transfer last summer, there were many people who were unsure how the Uruguayan would perform in the Premier League.

And it was a slow start to the campaign for Cavani with many rumours suggesting that he would be on his way out of Old Trafford at the end of the season.

The Uruguayan striker appeared to come into his own in the second half of the season though. On top form, he was one of the best strikers in the Premier League and someone who could lead the line for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side consistently. Ultimately, he ended up extending his Manchester United contract and will be at the club for another season.

As tweeted out by Jonathan Shrager, Cavani is probably set to fly back to Manchester on Thursday but is yet to learn which quarantine rules will apply to him:

This means that there is a possibility that Cavani’s return to training could be delayed further, depending upon which quarantine rules apply to him. The Uruguayan striker was granted an extended holiday by Solskjaer after the Copa America.

This could be a worry for the Red Devils heading into the new season. Cavani appeared to be Solskjaer’s first-choice striker by the end of the previous campaign.

On the other hand, Marcus Rashford is set to miss the start of the season as well after undergoing surgery. Thus, options could be limited up top.

Of course, Anthony Martial is available. And after a disappointing 2020/21 campaign, the Frenchman could have a point to prove. On the other hand, Mason Greenwood is capable of playing up top as well, but last season when he featured there, it did look like he was not quite ready to lead the line on his own yet.
