Manchester United have a long history of bringing through young talents, with many of them going on to become absolute superstars of the game.
This method has brought a lot of success to the club over the years. The Red Devils have kept on building upon the record of having a player from their youth development levels in each and every matchday squad since October of 1937.
And even in recent times, we have seen how important the youth system is to the club. Over the last two years or so, under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, several more from the development system have gotten a taste of first-team football.
Names such as Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams come to mind immediately. And many more are expected to come through moving forward.
3 youngsters who could enjoy breakout seasons for Manchester United
Here are three Manchester United youngsters who we feel could end up enjoying breakout seasons during the 2021/22 campaign:
Shola Shoretire
When it comes to the youth teams in England, Manchester United rank up there among the best. Players of Shola Shoretire’s quality are the reason why the club’s academy prospects are regarded so highly. Before moving to the club, Shoretire played for Whitley Bay Boys Club, Newcastle City Juniors, Wallsend Boys Club and Hebburn & Cramlington Juniors.
He also had a brief spell in Manchester City’s youth setup as well before joining the Red Devils at the age of nine in 2014. Shoretire caught the eyes of United under-23s coach Neil Wood after impressing with the under-18s side and made his debut for the Under-23s at the age of 16.
Last season, he was a regular trainee among the senior squad. And those training sessions eventually paid off when he made his Premier League debut in February of 2021. Shoretire came on as an 88th-minute substitute for Marcus Rashford, another Manchester United academy graduate, against Newcastle United.
He has not scored or assisted for the senior side yet. But according to the stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 10 goals and provided 5 assists last season in 21 appearances in Premier League 2. And it feels like it is only a matter of time before he starts finding the back of the net for the senior team as well.
