Form a solid defence with Raphael Varane at its heart

Manchester United have been linked with Varane for years now, going back to when Sir Alex Ferguson was the manager of the club. But the move had never quite materialised, until this summer. The Red Devils have reached an agreement with Real Madrid for the signing of the Frenchman and the move should be completed soon.

One of the most decorated defenders of this generation, Varane has won everything that is there to win at the club level with Real Madrid while also winning the World Cup with the France national team.

There are very few defenders in the world right now with his combination of top level experience and world-class ability. Thus, it goes without saying that signing him should be considered as a major coup for the Red Devils.

More from Manchester United News

He is expected to come in and form a partnership with Harry Maguire in the heart of the defence. And if the two can gel well together, that has the potential to be one of the best defensive duos in all of Europe.

Varane could be a perfect complement to Maguire at the back. And while defence has been considered as one of Manchester United’s weaknesses for quite some time now, with the addition of the Frenchman at the back, they could very possibly have the most complete backline in the entire Premier League.

It remains to be seen how things work out on the pitch. But on paper, a defence consisting of Varane, Maguire, Wan-Bissaka and Shaw looks absolutely brilliant.

Thus, the fans should be very excited about what is to come this season. At the end of the day, it is defences that win championships and it looks like the club could have a great one this season.
