Manchester United have already enjoyed an eventful transfer window, having signed Jadon Sancho and Tom Heaton, while a move for Raphael Varane has also been agreed and only seems like a matter of time. But they would not be expected to stop here though.

The Red Devils are expected to strengthen their squad even further. And one area that they could be looking to strengthen in is the middle of the park.

Fred and Scott McTominay have been the first-choice duo there for a while but there is a feeling that that is an area where the Red Devils can improve even further. Also, the future of Paul Pogba is up in the air right now with him entering the final 12 months of his contract and Nemanja Matic is now 33 years of age.

As reported by Calciomercato (via Express), Manchester United are a club looking at Nicolo Barella, especially if Pogba departs.

Barella could be a fantastic signing for Manchester United

Barella has been very impressive for Inter Milan in recent seasons. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 3 goals and provided 14 assists last season.

The midfielder also played a big part in Italy’s EURO 2020 triumph. And at 24 years of age, he is expected to only get better moving forward. Thus, the sky might be the limit for someone like Barella.

Of course, it would be very difficult to sign him from Inter Milan. Achraf Hakimi has already left the Italian giants this summer while Romelu Lukaku is being heavily linked with a move to Chelsea as well. As a result, with Barella’s contract running till the summer of 2024, the Italian giants won’t be under any pressure to let him leave.

It is worth pointing out that Liverpool have been linked with Barella recently as well. And it remains to be seen if the Red Devils do decide to make a move for the midfielder.
