Central midfield is an area on the pitch that Manchester United could be looking to strengthen in, especially with the future of Paul Pogba up in the air and Nemanja Matic now 33 years of age.
As a result, the Red Devils have been linked with several midfielders over the course of the last few months. One of them is Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka.
Goretzka’s current deal with the Bundesliga giants runs out next summer. And recent rumours have suggested that Manchester United are very interested in making a move for him if he does end up becoming a free agent in the future.
But it does look like Julian Nagelsmann is confident about the midfielder signing a contract extension with Bayern Munich. As reported by Sky Sports, the manager said:
"“I stay out of these issues. Of course I have talked to him about my plans for him.“I’ve told him I’d be happy if he extended and I’m also confident. There are several topics involved when it comes to discussing a contract extension.“I’ll continue to focus on the sports side of things and show him he can be one of the most dangerous midfielders in Europe. He has potential to get even better.”"

Manchester United handed Goretzka transfer blow
Goretzka has been brilliant in recent times for the Bundesliga giants. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 8 goals and provided 9 assists in 32 appearances last season.
Goretzka is also great at both attacking side and defensive side of things, and has the potential to be one of the best midfielders in Europe if he is not already one of them.
Thus, signing Goretzka would be considered as a major coup for any club. At this point of time though, it remains to be seen what the future holds for him at Bayern Munich. He is one of their most important players at the moment and it is expected that they would try their best to keep him at the club for the foreseeable future.
If Goretzka does end up becoming a free agent next summer, competition for his signature would be expected to be very tough, considering his quality and potential. At 26 years of age, he is just entering his prime as a footballer and can be one of the best midfielders in world football for years to come.
