After being linked with him for months, it looks like a Raphael Varane transfer is not far away for Manchester United. The Frenchman has been one of Real Madrid’s most important players for years now but with just a year left on his current contract, he looks set to depart Santiago Bernabeu this summer.
As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, the agreement is almost done between the two clubs with just final details to be completed and then it will be time for paperwork. The player has an agreement on personal terms too.
It is safe to say that the Red Devils have enjoyed a brilliant summer transfer window. They have already signed Jadon Sancho and Tom Heaton, and now the move for Varane looks close as well. Also, they are getting the deals done early, which will give the new signings almost a full pre-season.
Paul Pogba’s future remains up in the air though with him entering the final 12 months of his current deal. The French midfield maestro has also been heavily linked with Paris Saint-Germain in recent times.

Manchester United could make move for a midfielder this summer
As reported by Manchester Evening News, Manchester United’s preference is to sign a midfielder ahead of a full-back. While the club have been linked with Kieran Trippier, they deem the midfield to be a more pressing issue, given the uncertainty over Pogba’s future.
Interestingly, names of midfielders like Eduardo Camavinga, Saul Niguez, Declan Rice and many others have been linked with an Old Trafford switch this summer.
Scott McTominay and Fred were Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s preferred duo in midfield last season, sitting in front of the defence, while Pogba featured mostly further up the pitch.
But there is a feeling that that is an area where the club can improve even further. Now, it remains to be seen what the future holds for both Pogba and the club’s midfield.
