Manchester United have been linked with a number of players over the past several months and they have made a spectacular start to the summer transfer window. The Red Devils have already signed Jadon Sancho and Tom Heaton, and rumours suggest that a move for Raphael Varane might be on the cards as well in the near future.
Another area of the pitch that they could be looking to bring in reinforcements in is the middle of the park. Fred and Scott McTominay served as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-choice duo in midfield last season.
On the other hand, it looks like Paul Pogba could be headed out of Old Trafford this summer with just a year left on his current deal. And Nemanja Matic is set to turn 33 years of age soon. As a result, it would not be surprising to see the club try to sign a new central midfielder and it looks like they might even be open to waiting a season for the right player.
Leon Goretzka is someone that they are believed to be interested in signing if the German international ends up leaving Bayern Munich on a free transfer next summer. But it appears they will have some tough competition for his signature.

Real Madrid and Manchester United both linked with Goretzka
As reported by Bild (via AS), Real Madrid are interested in Goretzka and would like to sign him if he leaves Bayern Munich on a free transfer in the summer of 2022.
The Spanish giants have certainly signed some big players from Bayern Munich in recent times. They signed Toni Kroos back in 2014 and he has gone on to become one of the best midfielders in the world since then. The club have also signed David Alaba on a free transfer this summer. And now, it looks like they could be looking to add Goretzka to that list.
The German midfielder has been superb for Bayern Munich in recent seasons and it is not surprising that both Manchester United and Real Madrid are believed to be interested in signing him.
