Manchester United star picks between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo
It is the age-old question in football – Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, who is the better player? For most Manchester United fans, the choice is easy, as the Portuguese superstar enjoyed an incredible time at the club.
It was at Old Trafford that Ronaldo first established himself as one of the best players in the world. He would win multiple Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup, the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the Community Shield as well as a Ballon d’Or – the first of five – during his time at the Theatre of Dreams.
It is safe to say that he is remembered fondly by the fans. But the Red Devils are no strangers to Lionel Messi either. The club met FC Barcelona in two Champions League finals, losing both and with the Argentine scoring in both games.
As a result, it might be a bit surprising that Mason Greenwood picked Messi over Ronaldo, considering he arrived at the club back when the Portuguese superstar was still at Old Trafford. But of course, there is no denying the Argentine’s greatness. As reported by Manchester United’s official website, the 19-year-old said:
"“For me, it’s always got to be Messi.“For me, he’s just on another planet.“Ronaldo is obviously amazing, a physical, great athletic footballer. But to do what Messi does at his size, what he’s done for Barcelona and winning that trophy for Argentina, he is just on another level.”"

The Manchester United star picked Messi over Ronaldo
To be honest, there might be no right answer to the question. At the end of the day, it all comes down to what someone enjoys in a footballer.
If it comes down to sheer skill, dribbling, passing, vision, Messi is ahead of Ronaldo. But if you are looking for a player who will get the job done most of the time and get his team the win, the Portuguese superstar might be slightly ahead of the Argentine.
But obviously, both of them are incredible footballers. Two of the best that have ever played the game and two who are in the inevitable ‘Greatest of All Time’ debate. Who is actually better between the two though? Perhaps we will have to wait till the end of their careers to have an answer to that question.
