AS Roma appear to be out of transfer race for Manchester United star
Despite showing promising signs under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over the past few years, Manchester United are yet to win a trophy under the Norwegian. As a result, Jose Mourinho remains the last manager to bring silverware to Old Trafford.
Under Mourinho, the Red Devils finished second for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement. It was seen as a major step in the right direction. But underwhelming results in the upcoming season meant that the club decided to part ways with the manager in the middle of the campaign. It was back then that Solskjaer was brought in.
After that, Mourinho became the manager of Tottenham Hotspur. After making a bright start to the 2020/21 campaign, his side faded away and his stint at the club came to an end in the middle of the season.
He did not spend too much time away from football though and is now in Italy, managing AS Roma. And one player that the team have been linked with in recent times is Alex Telles.
AS Roma’s loan offer for Telles was turned down by Manchester United
As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils turned down a loan offer for Telles and AS Roma made an offer for Matias Vina to Palmeiras:

And since then, AS Roma have also reached an agreement in principle for Vina. Fabrizio Romano tweeted out:

Leonardo Spinazzola was one of the most impressive left-backs at EURO 2020 but he also picked up an injury that will keep him out of action for quite some time. As a result, Mourinho appears to be looking for someone who can feature at left-back for AS Roma and it looks like he has got his man in the form of Vina.
On the other hand, Telles joined Manchester United just last summer but has not been able to nail down his spot in the first-team. That is largely because of Luke Shaw’s incredible form last season and at this point of time, the England international might be one of the best left-backs in the world.
As a result, it is hard to see Telles moving ahead of Shaw in the pecking order in the near future and it remains to be seen if the Brazilian left-back remains at Old Trafford next season, but a move to AS Roma might not longer be on the cards.
