While Manchester United have shown some promising progress during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time as the manager of the club, they are yet to win a trophy under the Norwegian. In fact, the Red Devils have now gone four seasons without a single piece of silverware and that is a streak that they must look to bring to an end as soon as possible.

They have made quite a start in the summer transfer window though. After agreeing a deal with Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho and signing Tom Heaton on a free transfer, they have been heavily linked with Raphael Varane as well.

And now, it looks like they could be taking steps towards a move for Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez as well.

As reported by Manchester Evening News, journalist Francesc Aguilar has claimed that Manchester United are in negotiations with Saul’s agent over a move.

Saul could be a good signing for Manchester United

It was not too long ago that Saul was considered as one of the best young midfielders in world football. But despite Atletico Madrid winning La Liga last season, the Spaniard did not enjoy a great individual campaign and they now seem open to the idea of parting ways with the 26-year-old.

He has been heavily linked with a move to FC Barcelona in a swap deal involving Antoine Griezmann. But if an agreement cannot be reached between the two La Liga giants, a move to Old Trafford might very well be on the cards.

The middle of the park is an area where Solskjaer’s side could be looking to improve in over the course of the summer transfer window. And as a result, someone like Saul could prove to be a brilliant signing for them if they can get a deal over the line. Recent rumours have suggested that Atletico Madrid could be looking for a transfer bid of around €40 million for the midfielder.
