Manchester United are expected to bring in a number of players over the course of the next couple of months. In fact, they have already signed Tom Heaton on a free transfer and agreed a deal with Borussia Dortmund to sign Jadon Sancho, a player who they have been linked with for years. Raphael Varane is also being heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford.

But on the other hand, some players could be set to leave the club as well, either on loan or on a permanent basis. One such player whose future appears to be up in the air at the moment is Jesse Lingard.

The English international spent a brilliant half-a-season on loan at West Ham United. But with only one year left on his current deal with the Red Devils, many would have expected him to depart Old Trafford this summer.

But it looks like Lingard is still in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans. As reported by Manchester Evening News, the Norwegian manager said:

"“What he did towards the end of last season, that’s the true Jesse, that’s what we know he’s capable of and, for us, I think we saw towards the end that we lacked some options at times and Jesse is in the plans at the moment, yeah.”"

Lingard might remain at Manchester United beyond this summer

It looks like there is a possibility that Lingard might remain at Old Trafford beyond this summer although there appears to be interest in his signature from both around England and Europe.

After making only a few appearances in the first half of the previous campaign at Old Trafford, Lingard went out on loan to West Ham United. This is where he played some of the best football of his career. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 9 goals and provided 5 assists in 16 appearances for the Hammers.

It is safe to say that he was one of the best players in the Premier League during that period of time and if he can reproduce that form at Old Trafford, there is no reason that he cannot be a regular feature in Solskjaer’s side.
