Central midfield is a position that Manchester United could be looking to strengthen in over the course of the summer and they have been linked with midfielders over the course of the last few months.

Fred and Scott McTominay formed a formidable partnership last season as they were Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s preferred duo in the middle of the park. But there is a feeling that that is an area on the pitch where the club can improve even further.

Also, Paul Pogba’s future remains up in the air with just a year left on his current deal while Nemanja Matic is set to turn 33 years of age soon and he has been linked with a summer transfer exit himself. Thus, the Red Devils might need to sign a midfielder this summer.

Atletico Madrid’s Saul is someone that they have been linked with for some time now. And while it looks like a swap deal involving him and FC Barcelona’s Antoine Griezmann might be on the cards, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side might still have a chance of signing the €40-million rated midfielder.

Manchester United still in the transfer race for Saul

As reported by AS, if there is no agreement reached with FC Barcelona, then Manchester United or Liverpool may be destinations for Saul.

While Atletico Madrid did win the La Liga title last season, Saul is not coming off of the back of a brilliant individual season. Once considered one of the best young midfielders in the world, the Spanish champions now appear open to the idea of letting the 26-year-old leave despite his contract running till the summer of 2026.

He could certainly be a solid signing for the Red Devils though, who may need to bring in reinforcements in the middle of the park soon, depending on how things turn out in the summer transfer window.
