Most of the recent rumours linking the two clubs have been about Manchester United wanting to sign Saul Niguez. But it looks like there is one player from the Red Devils that Atletico Madrid have their eyes on as well.

As reported by 90 Min, Jesse Lingard is a target of Atletico Madrid. The 28-year-old had a very impressive half-a-season out on loan at West Ham United in the second half of the 2020/21 campaign.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 9 goals and provided 5 assists in 16 appearances for the Hammers. During that period of time, he was one of the best players in the Premier League and appears to have caught the eyes of clubs from around the continent.

At this point of time, Lingard has one year remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford and as a result, there is a possibility that he could very well be on his way out of the club this summer.

Lingard could leave Manchester United this summer

There is no doubt that Lingard had a spectacular spell at West Ham United. But even then, it is difficult to see where he would fit into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans at Old Trafford.

The English international did not feature much for the Red Devils in the first half of the previous season before he was sent out on loan. And even if he was to spend the upcoming season at the club, it is hard to see him moving ahead of Bruno Fernandes in the pecking order, with Jadon Sancho also set to arrive this summer.

As a result, with just a year remaining on his current deal, a transfer away from Old Trafford might make sense for both the club and the player moving forward. Now it remains to be seen what the future holds for Lingard.
