After having reached a deal with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Jadon Sancho, Manchester United’s eyes could move towards signing a centre-back now.

Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof served as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first choice pairing in the heart of defence through the course of the previous campaign and they did form a formidable partnership. But even then, there is a feeling that it is an area where the Red Devils can improve further.

Raphael Varane is someone who has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford over the past few months. The French World Cup winner has only one more year left on his current deal with Real Madrid and it looks like he could be on his way out of Santiago Bernabeu this summer. And there might be a major breakthrough in that regard.

As reported by ABC (via Sport Witness), Varane has reached an agreement on personal terms with the Red Devils. The contract is believed to be five years in length and would see him receive €12 million a year. Now, it all depends on whether the club can bring him to the Theatre of Dreams.

Can Manchester United agree a deal with Real Madrid for Varane?

With just a year left on his current deal with Real Madrid, the Spanish giants might have very little choice but to let him leave this summer if they cannot agree a new deal with the defender soon. Otherwise, he will become a free agent at the end of next season.

Real Madrid are believed to be looking for a transfer fee in the region of €60 million for Varane. Although the Red Devils could try to get him for a lower transfer fee. Now, it remains to be seen whether the clubs can reach an agreement, as the player looks interested in an Old Trafford switch.

If the Red Devils can sign Varane, it would be seen as a major coup on their part. He has been one of the best defenders in Europe for years now and could prove to be a brilliant partner at the back for someone like Maguire.
