A number of players are expected to depart Manchester United over the course of the summer transfer window as they look to strengthen the squad further and challenge for titles in the upcoming season.
Not too long ago, Juan Mata and Lee Grant appeared to be two such players who were headed for the Old Trafford exit door with their contracts running out. But now, it looks like the duo will end up staying at the club for another season as they have signed one-year contract extensions with the Red Devils.
Manchester United’s official website confirmed that Mata has agreed a one-year contract with the club, keeping him at Old Trafford till June of 2022. Thus, he will be entering what will be his ninth campaign with the Red Devils.
The club’s website also reported that Grant has also signed a one-year extension which will keep him at the club till the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

Both of the players are important members of the Manchester United squad
It is safe to say that neither Mata not Grant are first-team regulars at this point of time. But there is no doubt that both of them are popular and important members of the squad due to their wealth of experience.
Thus, it is certainly a positive that the Red Devils have managed to extend their stay for another year as they will be entering perhaps the most important season of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s managerial tenure.
The club have already signed Tom Heaton and agreed a Jadon Sancho deal with Borussia Dortmund, making a very strong start to the summer transfer window. But they won’t be expected to stop here though. There are a number of other positions in the squad that the Red Devils are believed to be looking to strengthen in over the course of the next few months.
