Manchester United should make move for Argentine star

Manchester United are expected to make a move for a centre-back in this summer transfer window. And in this respect, a number of players have been linked with the club.

One of those players is Cristian Romero. The Argentine star has been sensational for Atalanta in recent times and has also shined for the Argentina national team whenever he has played for them. In fact, he was named the best defender in Serie A for the 2020/21 season.

Raphael Varane is rumoured to be the top centre-back target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this summer. And it is not hard to see why, considering the combination of the Frenchman’s quality and experience.

But as reported by Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are considering signing two centre-backs to bolster their defence. And if that ends up being the case, signing a player like Romero would make a lot of sense for the Red Devils.

Romero could be a brilliant signing for Manchester United

Romero is currently in the middle of a two-year loan spell at Atalanta from Juventus. But the Bergamo side are believed to have an option to buy around €16 million in the loan deal, a figure that would be considered a bargain after the performances that the Argentine has put in.

Atalanta are expected to take up that option in the future. But if they were to let him leave after that, it is expected that they would be looking for a transfer fee of around €50 million for the centre-back.

At 23 years of age, the Argentine is expected to get even better moving forward and could be one of the best defenders in the world in the near future. Thus, the Red Devils should definitely consider making a move for him this summer if the opportunity was there to make it happen.
