Manchester United could be looking to strengthen in a number of positions over the course of the summer. One of them might very well be in central midfield.

As things stand, Fred and Scott McTominay have served as the first-choice duo in the middle of the park for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for quite some time now. And it is safe to say that the two have formed quite a formidable partnership. But at times, it has felt like this is an area on the pitch that the Red Devils could improve in further.

On top of that, Nemanja Matic is set to turn 33 years of age soon and Paul Pogba’s future at Old Trafford remains up in the air, as the Frenchman only has a year left on his current deal. Thus, it should not come as a surprise if the club does decide to bring in another player this summer, who is capable of playing in the middle of the park.

Saul is someone that the club have been linked with on a few occasions in the past. And as reported by AS (via GOAL), Atletico Madrid are willing to let him go as long as they get a good transfer fee for him.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Saul

While Atletico Madrid had a brilliant campaign, which saw them lift the La Liga title, Saul is not coming off the back of a great individual season. And with the Spanish giants looking set to sign Rodrigo De Paul this summer, the 26-year-old could be heading for the exit door soon.

There are five years still left on Saul’s current contract with Atletico Madrid and he is believed to have a release clause of around €150 million.

Recent rumours have suggested though that he could be available for a transfer fee much lower than that. And the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool are believed to be interested in signing the midfielder.
