Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will know about the qualities of Pau Torres very well, having seen him put in  brilliant display in the Europa League final against Manchester United as Villarreal won their first major trophy on the night.

Thus, it should not come as a surprise that the Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for Torres in the summer transfer window. In fact, the Spaniard appeared to have been on the Premier League giants’ radar even before the Europa League final. It is worth pointing out that Real Madrid are believed to be interested in the centre-back as well.

The 24-year-old has been brilliant for Villarreal over the past two years, emerging as one of the best defenders in La Liga. And he has managed to establish himself in the Spanish national team as well.

As reported by GOAL, he was asked about the Manchester United and Real Madrid speculation. Torres said:

"“I have a contract at Villarreal, I just won the first title for the club, we have qualified for the Champions League and it is something that excites me a lot.“Now I’m focused on the Euros. Then the Super Cup and nice things will come, so I’m totally calm.”"

Torres would be a brilliant signing for Manchester United

Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have been the first choice pairing at the heart of defence in Solskjaer’s side in recent times. And the two have formed a formidable partnership.

But there is a feeling that it is an area in which the club can improve even further. And signing someone like Torres could go a long way in doing that.

There is no doubting the fact that Torres is a brilliant defender. But on top of that, he is also left-footed, which could complement Maguire as his defensive partner at the back.

The Spanish international is believed  to have a release clause around €65 million this summer. And it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils can get a deal for him over the line. They have also been linked with the likes of Raphael Varane, Nikola Milenkovic, Cristian Romero and many other centre-backs as well though.
