Despite finishing second in the Premier League last season, Manchester United did concede 44 goals, the most of any team in the top four. And it does feel like defence is an area that the club can improve in further.
Signed from Leicester City in 2019, Harry Maguire was the rock in the heart of defence last season. But even his lack of pace can be a worry at times for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
As a result, the club might be looking to sign a centre-back who complements Maguire at the back for the Red Devils. And a number of defenders have been linked with an Old Trafford switch in recent times.
Players like Raphael Varane, Jules Kounde, Pau Torres, Sven Botman, Nikola Milenkovic and many others appear to be on their radar. But from the Premier League, one name that has been mentioned quite frequently is that of Brighton & Hove Albion’s Ben White, who is considered one of the most exciting defensive prospects in English football today. Many even believe he could be the perfect defensive partner for Maguire.

Arsenal preparing massive bid for Manchester United target
Ben White caught the eyes of world football when he was on loan at Leeds United and helped them secure Premier League football with his brilliant displays at the back in their 2019/2020 campaign. He has returned to The Seagulls since then and has been a regular in their defence as well.
He has also been a part of Gareth Southgate’s plans in recent times, making a couple of appearances for the England national team already. Thus, it should not come as a surprise that some of the top clubs in the country appear to want to sign him.
As reported by football.london, Arsenal are preparing a second transfer bid of around £45 million for White after their initial £40 million offer was rejected by Brighton & Hove Albion.
Of course, this could be a blow for Manchester United, although it does look like they are targeting other centre-backs at this point of time.
