Manchester United are expected to make a move for a centre-back in the upcoming summer transfer window. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof formed a formidable partnership in the heart of defence last season but there is a feeling that it is an area where the Red Devils can improve even further.

As a result, a number of centre-backs have been linked with a move to Old Trafford over the course of the last several months. One of them is Pau Torres.

Torres has been a standout performer for Villarreal over the course of the past couple of seasons. And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will know about his abilities very well, having seen him put in a brilliant performance in the Europa League final against the Red Devils. He is also a regular member of the Spanish national team at the moment.

If Torres is to leave Villarreal in the near future, there is not going to be any lack of interest for his signature. As reported by AS (via talkSPORT) he has now been targeted by Real Madrid.

Both Manchester United and Real Madrid have been linked with Torres

While the Red Devils are expected to be looking to strengthen their backline even further, Real Madrid on the other hand will be looking for a new centre-back in order to replace Sergio Ramos, who is leaving the club this summer as a free agent.

Interestingly, one of the names that the Premier League giants have been linked with recently is Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane. Thus, if Torres was to move to Santiago Bernabeu, it could very possibly open the door for Manchester United to make a move for the French World Cup winner, who has only one year left on his current deal.

The club have been linked with several big names like Jules Kounde, Nikola Milenkovic, Kalidou Koulibaly among many others. And it remains to be seen if they can sign one of them this summer.
