Zinedine Zidane is one of the greatest players in the history of football. Thus, getting compared to him means that you are a sensational player in your own right. And it looks like Ashley Cole sees a bit of Zidane in one Manchester United player.

That man is Paul Pogba. The midfield maestro has had his ups and downs ever since moving to Old Trafford back in 2016 in a then world record transfer.

On occasions, Pogba has shown that he can be one of the best players in the Premier League but he has not performed at that level on a consistent basis for the Red Devils. It has been a different story for the France national team though.

Pogba played a massive part in their World Cup winning campaign in 2018 and looks like a different player while playing for them. Of course, having N’Golo Kante beside him in midfield certainly helps. While speaking on The ITV Football Football Show and as reported by HITC, Cole even compared his on the ball abilities with that of Zidane:

"“When I watch him sometimes and the way he controls the ball, his turns, his touches, I’ve played against (Zinedine) Zidane and I see that in him.“That cultured turn. He did one Cruyff (turn) on the side-line.“Not many people can do that with that finesse and culture.”"

The Manchester United star has been brilliant for the French national team

Zidane is one of the best to ever play the game of football. But it is not hard to see why Cole likens Pogba with him.

Both of their on the ball abilities are incredible and they can dictate the game to be played at their own pace. Not many have that kind of panache with the ball at their feet. Of course, Pogba has to do a lot more to be compared with Zidane as an overall player.

Zidane was the best player in the world for quite some amount of time. It is safe to say that Pogba has not managed to reach that level yet. And while they do have a lot of similarities when it comes to certain aspects of their game, the 28-year-old has quite some way to go if he is to be a part of the all-time greats conversation one day.
