There are four Manchester United players in Gareth Southgate’s EURO 2020 England squad: Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Dean Henderson. And it is safe to say that if the Three Lions are to succeed in the competition, a lot will depend on how these players perform.
Maguire, Shaw and Rashford are all expected to feature in the first-team picture, while Henderson might be the back-up option to Jordan Pickford between the posts.
Going into the tournament, England have one of the strongest squads. And if they can put it together on the pitch and find the right combination, they have a very good chance of going all the way and lifting the trophy.
Jose Mourinho though does not believe that Rashford would be effective on the right-hand side of the Three Lions’ attack. As reported by talkSPORT, he said:
"“Harry Kane is untouchable, Jack Grealish is untouchable and the best position for Grealish is coming in from the left. For me, Marcus Rashford can only play there. When he plays on the right, he is completely lost.“He is dynamic but on the right totally broken. He is very good on the left attacking spaces. But Grealish, for me, is tremendous and what he creates and his personality – ‘give me the ball’ – he reminds me a little bit of Luis Figo.”"
Manchester United legend does not agree with Mourinho
Rio Ferdinand does not agree with Mourinho regarding Rashford though. As reported by Metro, the Manchester United legend said:
"“I don’t think he looks broken, I just feel that he looks more comfortable on the left-hand side.“But I’d say the same about [Raheem] Sterling.“Sterling looks better on the left, Grealish probably looks better on the left.”"

There is no doubting that Rashford looks more comfortable on the left-hand side. And he arguably has a better eye for goal than the Aston Villa captain.
Rashford did not have a great finish to the 2020/21 season though and at times, he looked like he was struggling to make an impact for the Red Devils. As a result, on current form, Grealish would probably be ahead of him.
But Rashford has a lot of experience playing for the England national team, which Grealish does not have. Thus, if it came down to that, the Manchester United star might end up getting the nod.
All this does though, is show how strong this current crop of players are for England. When you have Rashford, Grealish and Sterling to pick from for one position, it is definitely a good headache to have for a manager.
