Manchester United have chance to sign Real Madrid star for bargain fee
Manchester United are expected to try and sign a new centre-back this summer as defence is considered to be an area where Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will try to make additions in over the summer transfer window.
The pairing of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof has done quite well in the recent past and they did form a formidable partnership in the heart of the defence through the course of the previous campaign. But even then, there is a feeling that there can be further improvement made in that position.
One player who has been heavily linked with the club in recent months is Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane. The French World Cup winner’s contract with the La Liga giants is set to run out in the summer of 2022 and thus, they might have to let him leave this summer rather than lose him as a free agent a season later.
As reported by Mundo Deportivo (via GOAL), Real Madrid are ready to part ways with Varane for a transfer fee of €50 million (£43 million). This is much lower than the €70 million that they were once believed to be looking for.

Signing Varane would be a massive boost for Manchester United
Varane is one of the best defenders in all of Europe and has been for years now. Neither his pedigree nor his abilities can be questioned.
Thus, signing him would be a massive boost for the Red Devils and would turn them into serious contenders for next season’s Premier League title immediately. But of course, signing him will not be an easy task.
If a player of Varane’s quality was to leave Real Madrid this summer, a number of other clubs are expected to be after his signature as well. And in that case, it will take some doing on the part of Manchester United to convince him to come to Old Trafford.
