There are a number of positions on the pitch that Manchester United could do with more options at. Two of them are centre-back and right-back.

As a result, it would come as a surprise if the club decided to take a player from one of those positions and play him in the other. But that is exactly what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might be considering at the moment.

As reported by The Sun, Solskjaer is keen to see Aaron Wan-Bissaka play a more central role in the defence in the club’s pre-season matches in order to find out if he can perform there.

It is worth pointing out that Wan-Bissaka has been the regular starter for the Red Devils at right-back over the past couple of seasons. But there is not much depth beyond him in the position at this point of time. As a result, the club were already expected to sign a player at right-back in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Wan-Bissaka might play a more central role in the Manchester United defence

Wan-Bissaka is one of the best full-backs in the Premier League right now when it comes to the defensive side of things. It is on the other end of the pitch that questions have been raised at times.

Thus, it is not hard to see why Solskjaer might consider trying him out in a more central role and see how he adjusts to the position. It could magnify his strengths while hiding his weaknesses. It might even help open up more flexibility and lead to them playing a back three at times as well.

The likes of Kyle Walker and Cesar Azpilicueta have shown in the recent past that full-backs can perform in a more central role defensively. Now it remains to be seen whether Wan-Bissaka can do the same as well if given the opportunity.
