Manchester United might look to sign a centre-back in the upcoming summer transfer window. Over the last year or two under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, a lot of changes have been made to the squad. But the club are yet to meet their goal of winning trophies once again although there has been progress made on the pitch.

Manchester United have looked vulnerable at the back at times over the past few seasons. And while Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have formed a formidable pairing in the heart of the defence in recent times, it does look like it is an area where they can improve even further.

Raphael Varane, Nikola Milenković, Sven Botman, Jules Kounde and many others have been mentioned as potential transfer targets for the club this summer.

There are a number of transfer rumours floating around at the moment but Kounde is someone who is thought to be very highly-rated by the Red Devils. And the 22-year-old Sevilla defender could prove to be a great defensive partner for Harry Maguire if the club can make a move happen for him.

Manchester United face competition from FC Barcelona for Jules Kounde

As reported by Mundo Deportivo (via Tribal Football), Manchester United face tough competition from FC Barcelona for the signature of Kounde. They are said to be keen on signing the 22-year-old who has emerged as one of the best defenders in La Liga in recent years.

Kounde is believed to have a release clause of around £68 million but could be available for a bit lower in the current financial climate. But even then, it could prove to be a stiff transfer fee for FC Barcelona.

Kounde is set to represent the France national team in the upcoming Euros. And it will be another chance for Solskjaer to have a look at the defender. It is worth pointing out that the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal have been linked with him as well. Thus, the transfer battle for the 22-year-old is expected to be a tough one.
