Manchester United have always been the home of great defenders. From Gary Pallister to Nemanja Vidic, some of the best centre-backs in the history of football have made a name for themselves at Old Trafford.
For Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, Harry Maguire has been the heart of the defence for the last two years. But it feels like he needs a partner in order to take things to the next level.
The manager has shown immense faith in Victor Lindelof this season. And despite showing some strong signs of improvement, it does feel like that the playing styles of the duo do not complement each other and it is a position where the club can improve further.
Thus, signing a centre-back might be one of things near the top of Manchester United’s wishlist in the summer. One of the many names that have been linked with the club in recent months is that of Jules Kounde. After enjoying a very successful season with Sevilla, the Frenchman could be considering leaving Spain for pastures new in the upcoming summer.
Manchester United handed Kounde transfer boost
After getting a callup to the French national team for the upcoming European Championship, it looks like Kounde could be looking for a change in club this summer as well.
As reported by Goal, Kounde said:
"“I may have to change clubs this summer. I have not decided anything.“My goal is, one day, to evolve into a great club to always try to progress, win trophies. To be able to start the season each year by telling yourself that the goal is win a particular trophy. I might have to move, but that’s not relevant today.”"

Kounde has helped Sevilla finish 4th in La Liga this season. And in the process of doing so, he has established himself as one of the most promising defenders in all of football today.
It is not hard to see why the Red Devils might have him on their radar. Kounde is a brilliant tackler and possesses the sheer pace of a ‘modern defender’, which could be a great complement to Maguire, who is not the fastest himself.
The names of Raphael Varane, Nikola Milenković, Sven Botman, Sergio Ramos and many others have also been linked with the club in recent times. On the other hand, Kounde has been linked with several clubs himself. Thus, a transfer race could get interesting.
