After a poor run of form that had seen them lose two and draw another of their last three games, Manchester United managed to come out with a 2-1 win over the Wolves in the final game of their Premier League season as they finish in second spot, having shown some brilliant progress throughout the course of the campaign.

With the Europa League final just days away and second spot secured, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided to field a very different looking starting XI filled with youth prospects and players who have not gotten too many chances to feature this season.

That did not look like the case on the pitch though as the side was good enough to grab all three points on the day and finish the league season on a high.

It was Anthony Elanga who opened the scoring in the 13th minute but Wolves managed to equalise through Nelson Semedo in the 39th minute. Juan Mata then put the visitors back ahead from the penalty spot on the brink of half-time and ultimately, that turned out to be the winner.

The focus will now turn towards the Europa League final, where Manchester United will face Unai Emery’s Villarreal side.

This will be the club’s chance to win their first piece of silverware under Solskjaer and in many ways, it will be the biggest game of the season. If they fail to do so, it will be their fourth straight trophyless season, which won’t be encouraging at all despite the progress that they have made in recent times.
