Edinson Cavani signing a contract extension is a massive boost for Manchester United. The Uruguayan has been in tremendous form over the last couple of months and at this point of time is looking like one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

But at the end of the day, he is 34 years of age and is not a long-term solution for the club’s problems up top. Thus, it is very possible that the Red Devils could look to sign another striker in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The club have been linked with Harry Kane in the recent past and it looks like the England national team captain could be on his way out of Tottenham Hotspur in the near future.

But Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be looking for a transfer fee over £100 million if they were to let Kane leave. And that could be very difficult to shell out, especially in the current financial climate.

Manchester United linked with Danny Ings

As reported by The Telegraph (via Mirror), Manchester United could turn to Southampton striker Danny Ings, who has just one more year left on his current deal.

Ings has been in brilliant form in recent years. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 13 goals and provided 4 assists in 32 appearances this season. His 2019/2020 campaign was even better though, when he scored 25 goals across all competitions.

Thus, it goes without saying that he could prove to be a shrewd signing for any club. But it is also very possible that he could end up staying at Southampton.

Whether it is Ings, Kane or somebody else, one has to feel that a new striker might be near the top of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s summer wishlist. They do not have much depth in the position at this point of time and if they are to challenge for the Premier League title come next season, that needs to change.
