Manchester United will be expected to make a few waves in the upcoming summer transfer window with the aim of improving their squad even further and challenging for the Premier League title next season.

But in the current financial climate, the club might not be able to bring in a number of players before letting go of a few first. As a result, quite a few of the club’s stars have been linked with summer exits from Old Trafford.

One such player is David de Gea. The Spaniard has been the man with the gloves at Manchester United for almost a decade but has fallen behind Dean Henderson in the pecking order in recent months. And perhaps naturally, this has given rise to rumours of him heading for the Old Trafford exit door in the near future.

One of the clubs being linked with him are AS Roma, who will have Jose Mourinho as their manager come next season. But transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has said that there is no truth to the De Gea to AS Roma rumours. While speaking on the Here We Go Podcast and as reported by Give Me Sport, he said:

"“Fake news about De Gea. Roma say there is nothing, no negotiations, no talks, no contact between David De Gea’s people and Roma directors or Jose Mourinho himself.”"

The De Gea to AS Roma rumours appear to be false

De Gea was considered as one of the best goalkeepers in the world not too long ago. But in the past few years, a few mistakes have crept into his game which is probably the reason why Henderson is ahead of him in the pecking order right now.

But in the incredible performance against AS Roma in the second leg of the Europa League semi-finals, De Gea showed that he still has a lot left in the tank. And it will be interesting to see who ends up being the Red Devils’ number 1 by the end of the season.
