Manchester United put in a poor performance in their 4-2 defeat at Old Trafford at the hands of Liverpool. While Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford got the goals for the Red Devils, they were not enough to stop the visitors from getting all three points on the night with Roberto Firmino scoring a brace and Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah getting one each.

Now, we know that top four is secure for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side and it is likely that they will finish in the second spot as well. But at the end of the day, this kind of form could end up having an effect on the team when they take to the pitch in the Europa League final to face Villarreal.

A couple of days ago, Solskjaer named a team full of youngsters and fringe players against Leicester City and the defeat on that occasion was perhaps understandable with the tight schedule that the club are facing at the moment.

But the team named against Liverpool was the strongest at Solskjaer’s disposal right now. Thus, the defeat will be very disappointing for the Red Devils.

Manchester United Player Ratings vs Liverpool

Here’s how we rated the Manchester United players as they suffered a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Liverpool in a game with massive top four implications:

Dean Henderson – 5

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6.5

Eric Bailly – 4

Victor Lindelof – 4.5

Luke Shaw – 5

Scott McTominay – 4

Fred – 4.5

Marcus Rashford – 6

Bruno Fernandes – 6

Paul Pogba – 6.5

Edinson Cavani – 6

Substitutes

Mason Greenwood – 6.5

Nemanja Matic – 4

Performances like these could disrupt the rhythm and the momentum that the club had built up over the past several weeks. Thus, the focus should be on finishing this season strong while also making sure that the players do not get tired or injured. Clearly, Solskjaer has his work cut out for him heading into the Europa League final.
