Manchester United are expected to make a few waves in the upcoming summer transfer window. And one position that they are believed to be interested in strengthening at is striker.

Anthony Martial has had a tough time finding form and consistency this season. On the other hand, Edinson Cavani has looked good when on the pitch but he has had his fair share of injury issues. He is also 34 years of age and is being linked with a summer exit. Thus, neither of them might be the long-term solution up front for the Red Devils.

As a result, the club have been linked with some huge names in recent months. Names like Erling Haaland, Harry Kane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have been brought up. But could Manchester United have the answer to their problems up top, already at Old Trafford?

Peterborough United Director of Football, Barry Fry, hailed Mason Greenwood as a ‘special talent’ and believes he will be the best centre-forward around in two or three years. As reported by Football FanCast, he said:

"“I think the best player Manchester United have got, and he will be the best centre-forward in the future, is Greenwood.“I think he’s a special talent, he’s still young, but in two or three years I think he’ll be the best centre-forward around.”"

Is Greenwood the answer to Manchester United’s problems up top?

Now, there is no denying Greenwood’s talents or abilities. At the age of 19, he is already a first-team regular for the Red Devils, which is very impressive. His finishing is also brilliant.

But he might not be ready yet to lead the line for the club. We have seen him get a few starts at striker in recent months and he has not fully convinced while playing there till now. Of course, there is plenty of time for him to develop his game and ultimately become the main striker at Manchester United.

He has operated frequently down the right flank this season as that is a position that the Red Devils do not possess much depth in at this point of time and done quite well. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 9 goals and provided 6 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions this season.
