Jack Grealish has emerged as one of the best players in the Premier League over the past few years. And the Aston Villa captain has been linked with a move away for quite some time now as well, although it has not materialised yet. One of the clubs he has been most heavily linked with is Manchester United.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Grealish has scored 7 goals and provided 12 assists in 23 appearances across all competitions this season. But it is not just his output that is impressive but his overall play as well, and he might very well be the best player in England playing for a team outside the traditional ‘Big Six’.

Thus, it should not be surprising that the Red Devils have been linked with him in the recent past although at this point of time, neighbours Manchester City look like the most likely destination when it comes to Grealish.

Yet, Noel Whelan believes that a move to Old Trafford could still be on the cards for Grealish. As reported by Football Insider, he said:

"“Who’s not going to be interested right now in Jesse Lingard? Nine goals in 10 games, four assists I mean, he’s just on fire at the minute.“That would be an exciting fit, wouldn’t it? I mean even if Grealish left for a lot of money. You’d see him very much as a replacement for Grealish as well.“We know how important he is to them but I don’t see too many players that would bring those similar kind of stats than Jesse Lingard right now.“Maybe think about that side of things as well. If he does go, Manchester United have been interested for a long time in Grealish. Maybe, just maybe, there’s a swap on the cards.“This might be one thing that Man United are tempted with, that they see on the cards. A year left, it would be £60million and Jesse Lingard. That to me is a good deal.”"

Would it be a good deal for Manchester United?

First of all, let us just say that Jesse Lingard has been absolutely phenomenal ever since joining West Ham United and he is one of the most in-form players in the Premier League at this point of time. As a result, there is expected to be a lot of interest in him if the Red Devils do decide to let him leave this summer.

But would a deal involving £60 million transfer fee plus Lingard for Grealish make sense for Manchester United? That is certainly debatable.

It is as a left winger or as an attacking midfielder that the Aston Villa midfielder mostly operates. Those positions are currently occupied by Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes respectively in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.

There are other positions in the team that need immediate reinforcements though and as a result, signing Grealish does not appear to be a necessity at this point of time although he is without doubt a brilliant player and would bring a lot of quality to the squad.
