At this point of time, Edinson Cavani appears to be the best striker at Manchester United. While he has had his fair share of injury worries this season, when on the pitch, he has looked like the most natural goalscorer the club have.

As a result, it would be a massive blow to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side if the Uruguayan striker ends up leaving at the end of this season. But that is exactly what might happen.

Cavani has been heavily linked with an Old Trafford exit in recent months with Boca Juniors looking like his most likely destination if he indeed does end up leaving in the summer.

While the Red Devils will understandably be keen to hold on to the striker, they must prepare for an alternative option as well. And that man might turn out to be Borussia Monchengladbach’s Alassane Plea. As reported by Daily Mail, Manchester United are monitoring the forward, with the 28-year-old ready to leave Germany this summer.

Manchester United linked with summer move for Plea

It is believed that Plea could be available for £15 million this summer, which is a relative bargain for a player of his quality.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 11 goals across 36 appearances in all competitions this season. But interestingly, 5 of those goals have come in the Champions League from 8 appearances, which is very impressive to say the least.

Can he prove to be the replacement for Cavani though? That is certainly up for debate. But he certainly has youth on his side. At 34 years of age, there is no denying the fact that Cavani is not a long-term solution for the Red Devils’ problems up top. On the other hand, Plea is in the middle of his prime and could prove to be a shrewd signing for the club for years to come if he successfully adjusts to Premier League football.

Manchester United won’t be without competition for the signature of Plea though as Arsenal are also reportedly tracking the striker.
