The pursuit of a centre-back appears to be on the horizon for Manchester United as they are expected to sign a partner for Harry Maguire this summer. There have been links with a number of players starting from Sevilla’s Jules Kounde to Villarreal’s Pau Torres in recent times. Names like Raphael Varane, Nikola Milenkovic and Sergio Ramos have also been mentioned as potential transfer targets.

Dayot Upamecano is believed to have been a target as well until it emerged that he was headed to Bayern Munich in the summer. As reported by Eurosport, the Red Devils have an eye on his RB Leipzig teammate Ibrahima Konate.

Despite the recent improvement at the back when it comes to the partnership of Maguire and Lindelof, there is a feeling that things could be improved even further in that position. Even more importantly, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe have all been linked with moves away from the club in the recent past.

But securing the services of the Frenchman might prove to be quite difficult for the Red Devils as he has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks.

Konate could be a brilliant signing for Manchester United

Apart from Liverpool and Manchester United, Chelsea are also believed to be interested in acquiring the services of the Frenchman. The 21-year-old is believed to be available for around €40 million in the summer, which could be a bargain for a player of his quality.

Now, it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will decide to make a move for the youngster although Liverpool do seem like his most likely destination at this point of time if he does end up leaving RB Leipzig.

It is worth pointing out though that the defender has had his injury issues in recent times. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made only 27 appearances since the start of the 2019/20 season.
