A new striker is expected to be near the top of Manchester United’s wishlist in the summer transfer window after the club have had their worries up front this season.

After scoring 23 goals last season, it had looked like Anthony Martial could be the long-term answer for the Red Devils in the position. But he has failed to hit the ground running this time around, and only has 7 goals from 36 appearances according to stats from Transfermarkt.

On the other hand, Edinson Cavani has looked sharp when on the pitch and could be the best striker at Old Trafford right now despite being 34 years of age. But he has had his injury issues, which have kept him on the sidelines for quite some time and has also been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season.

Thus, signing a new striker would make a lot of sense for the Red Devils. And one man who appears to be in their sights is Paris Saint-Germain superstar Mauro Icardi.

Could Manchester United make a move for Icardi in the summer?

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Top Mercato), Manchester United could be eyeing a move for the Argentine striker this summer, with it looking likely that Cavani could depart the club.

Icardi has been considered as one of the most lethal strikers in Europe for years and was spectacular throughout the course of his Inter Milan career. And after a bright debut campaign with Paris Saint-Germain in 2019/2020, he has had a few ups and downs this time around.

There is a feeling that the French giants might not be completely against the idea of parting ways with Icardi. And it is believed that a transfer fee between €30 million and €40 million could be negotiated if the Argentine does end up leaving.

If a player of Icardi’s quality is available in the summer, then the Red Devils should definitely think about making a move.
