Manchester United have shown some promising progress this season as they sit at second in the Premier League table and are in the quarter-final of the Europa League, where they are set to take on debutants Granada.

One man who has perhaps been most synonymous with the club’s recent improvement is Luke Shaw. The English international has been absolutely spectacular this season and could very well be the best left-back in the Premier League on current form.

Of course, this has left Alex Telles struggling for minutes. The former FC Porto star arrived in the summer but has played only 511 minutes of football in the Premier League till now, according to stats from Transfermarkt. And he is already being linked with a move away from the club, albeit on a loan.

As reported by Record (via Sport Witness), the Red Devils are interested in rising Sporting Lisbon star Nuno Mendes and are willing to include Telles as part of the deal.

Telles could leave Manchester United as part of potential Mendes deal

The Red Devils have a great history of signing players from Sporting Lisbon. Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani, Marcos Rojo and Bruno Fernandes, all arrived from the Portuguese side and they are currently being linked with Pedro Goncalves as well.

And it looks like the Sporting Lisbon could be open to the idea of Telles being part of a deal but there are certain complications as well.

Mendes is believed to have a €70 million release clause in his contract but the Portuguese club might be ready to do a deal for a transfer fee of around €40 million, if Telles is allowed to join them on a loan deal. His wages could be a problem though and they would be looking for the Red Devils to take care of a part of his wages.

Manchester United are not the only club the 18-year-old is being linked with though as Manchester City are also believed to have an interest in signing him.
