The upcoming summer transfer window promises to be an exciting one for Manchester United. While the club have shown some encouraging progress this season, they still need to take a step or two more before they can compete for trophies on a consistent basis.
As a result, the Red Devils might make some waves in the transfer market in the summer. And do not be surprised to see the club make a couple of big signings.
One position that needs reinforcements is centre-back. While the duo of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof has done very well recently, there is not a lot of depth beyond them. Eric Bailly has impressed when on the pitch but his injury issues are a worry. Phil Jones has also spent the majority of the season out of action. And Axel Tuanzebe has failed to build upon the incredible performance against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
Naturally, the club have been linked with a number of centre-backs over the past several months. One of them is Villarreal’s Pau Torres. But it looks like they could have some competition for his signature.

Liverpool are monitoring the Manchester United target
As reported by the Daily Mail, Torres is a defender who is being monitored by Jurgen Klopp’s side. And it is not hard to see why, as the 24-year-old has been very impressive recently.
But with the Merseyside club being heavily linked with Ibrahima Konate as well, it feels unlikely that they will go after Torres, if they can get a deal over the line for the RB Leipzig centre-back.
Torres is believed to have a release clause around €65 million. And with his current contract with Villarreal running till the summer of 2024, the La Liga side should not be in any hurry to let him leave.
Torres could prove to be a great signing for the Red Devils, but it will be interesting to see if they can sign him over the course of the summer.
