It has been quite some time since somebody playing in the Premier League won the Ballon d’Or. In fact, the last man to do so was Cristiano Ronaldo, who was playing at Manchester United back then.

The Red Devils have a number of players in their current squad though, who could end up competing for the award in the near future. On current form, it is hard to deny that Bruno Fernandes should at least be in contention even if he does not win it.

Players like Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood are also believed to be capable of reaching the top if they are able to take their game to the next level. And it might be time to add the name of Amad to that list as well.

Giovanni Galli played for the Italian national team as well as the likes of AC Milan, Napoli, Fiorentina, Torino, Parma and Lucchese through the course of his career. And he was the man who organised a trial for Amad at Atalanta. Since then, the youngster has grown in leaps and bounds as a footballer. And while speaking with Goal, Galli said:

"“In short, I think he has all the qualities to be a candidate for the Ballon d’Or in the next five years.”"

Can the Manchester United youngster compete for the Ballon d’Or in the future?

Joining the club in the summer transfer window, the 18-year-old arrived at Old Trafford in January. And it is safe to say that he has impressed since then.

He scored a spectacular header against AC Milan in the first leg of their Europa League tie, which proved to be instrumental in the Red Devils going through to the quarter-finals of the competition. And his record for the Manchester United U23 side is extraordinary as well. In 2 appearances, he has scored 3 goals and provided 3 assists as well. That is a goal contribution every 30 minutes!

It will be interesting to see how he continues to develop over the years. The potential is clearly there for him to become one of the best players on the planet. Now, it is up to Amad to fulfil his potential.
