After a run of decent results, Manchester United appeared to take a couple of steps back under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after losing their FA Cup quarter-final against Leicester City.

A brace from Kelechi Iheanacho and a goal from Youri Tielemans meant that Mason Greenwood’s equaliser went in vain as Brendan Rodgers’ side came out with a 3-1 victory and advanced to the semi-finals of the competition where they will take on Southampton.

Naturally, questions will be raised about the Red Devils’ performance, who were enjoying a brilliant week till now. But it is safe to say that this defeat could halt the momentum that they had built up over the past several weeks.

This leaves them competing only in the Premier League and the Europa League at this stage of the season, with Solskjaer still looking to win his first trophy as the manager of the side.

This will be a massive blow to Manchester United’s season. The FA Cup is one of the trophies that they would have been hoping to compete for, with it looking unlikely that Manchester City are going to slip up in the league.

They were also in the ‘easier’ side of the draw and would have faced Southampton in the semi-finals if they had managed to beat Leicester City.

What is done is done though and there is no point dwelling on the poor result. The focus should turn towards the next game, which is against Brighton & Hove Albion. It will be important for the Red Devils to win the game or they could get caught up in a top four battle.
