Manchester United have shown some incredible progress this season and currently sit at second in the Premier League table, with the possibility of mounting a title challenge if Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City do slip up over the following weeks.

But even if the Red Devils do not win the league, the improvement over the course of the past year or so has been impressive to say the least. They have become a very difficult team to break down and beat under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

One man who has played a huge part in that is Paul Pogba. Despite injury troubles, the Frenchman has played some of the best football of his Manchester United career this season. But with his contract quickly running out, there are fears that he could be headed for the Old Trafford exit at the end of the current campaign.

Things appear to have changed over the past few months though and it does look like there might be a possibility that the Frenchman ends up staying at the club after all. As reported by The Telegraph and as cited by The Peoples Person:

"‘Pogba is due to enter the final 12 months of his existing £290,000-a-week deal this summer but United are believed to have been given some encouragement that the midfielder is now open to staying and have been heartened by his attitude and application behind the scenes.‘That has yet to extend to Pogba being presented with a new formal contract offer and the player – who celebrated his 28th birthday this week – may have to offer a clear statement of his commitment to the club before the situation progresses further.‘But the outlook has changed from those weeks before Christmas when Pogba looked to have reached the point of no return at Old Trafford.’"

Could Pogba remain at Manchester United?

Pogba has been spectacular this season when on the pitch and Manchester United have looked like a much better side with him in the team. It is easy to forget that at the start of the campaign, there were even occasions when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had left the Frenchman on the bench.

Will he end up staying at the club though? That is something only time will tell. But it is clear that the situation has improved a lot over the past several months.

It did look like Pogba was destined to leave the club at the end of this campaign at one time, with only a year left on his current contract at that point. But now, there is at least some hope that the two parties can reach a deal and extend his stay at Old Trafford. And if the opportunity is indeed there, Manchester United should not even think twice. He is that good of a player when on the top of his game.
