Cristiano Ronaldo is without doubt one of the best players to ever step on a football pitch. And although it has been over a decade since he left Manchester United to move to Real Madrid in a then world record transfer, the Portuguese superstar has continued to be linked with a return to Old Trafford throughout the years.

Now at Juventus, things have not gone as Ronaldo would have expected when he joined the Serie A giants. They have been eliminated from the UEFA Champions League in disappointing fashion in three straight seasons by Ajax, Lyon and FC Porto respectively. And now, the 36-year-old is being linked with a move away from the club in the summer.

Naturally, the name of Manchester United has cropped up. Although, a return to Real Madrid might be on the cards as well.

At this point of time, his comments from back in 2014 have re-emerged. As reported by Mirror, speaking about the Red Devils, he had said:

"“I love Manchester. Everyone knows that. Manchester is in my heart. The supporters are amazing and I wish I can come back one day.”"

Could Ronaldo return to Manchester United in the summer?

There is no denying that Ronaldo returning to Old Trafford would be a blockbuster move. But could it actually happen?

There is no doubt that he is still a world class player. Just this season, he has scored 30 goals in 33 appearances while also providing 4 assists. But at 36 years of age, he is unfortunately in the twilight of his career and there will be questions about whether he can adjust to the Premier League now.

There is also the matter of the incredible salary package that it could cost Manchester United to bring him back to Old Trafford. And as reported by the Express, it looks like the club won’t be pushing for a reunion in the summer.

At the end of the day, most fans would probably want to see him play for the club once more. But it might just be a bit too late for that to happen.
