Manchester United are expected to bring in a new centre-back in the summer in order to partner with Harry Maguire in the heart of their defence.

This season, Victor Lindelof has been the man who has started alongside the club captain on most occasions. But it does feel the partnership can get a lot better despite the fact that they have started to keep clean-sheets on a consistent basis lately.

On the other hand, while Eric Bailly’s style does compliment that of Maguire, the Ivory Coast international has had quite a few injury issues during his time at Old Trafford. And thus, it is not hard to see why the Red Devils might dip into the transfer market for another player in that position.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the club have scouted Anel Ahmedhodzic although Chelsea appear to have done the same. But Atalanta seem to be in advanced talks to sign him:

Manchester United have been linked with the young centre-back

The 21-year-old currently plays for Malmo. He came through their academy but ended up moving to Nottingham Forest. He did not find much success there though and ended up moving back to the Swedish club.

After a loan stint at Hobro IK, he has managed to establish himself in Malmo’s first-team and is drawing interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe at the moment.

Interestingly, Ahmedhodzic has played for both Sweden and Bosnia and Herzegovina at international level. After going through the Swedish ranks, he made his international debut for them in early 2020 but decided to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina moving forward, later in the same year. And it is clear that the 6′ 4″ centre-back has a lot of potential.

No transfer fee has not been mentioned though and it could play a deciding factor in any potential move to Old Trafford for the youngster in the near future. At this point of time though, Atalanta appear to be the favourites.
