It is undeniable that not many would have expected Manchester United to sit at second in the Premier League table at this this stage of the season. And the progress that the Red Devils have shown over the past couple of years has certainly been very promising.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deserves a lot of credit for this and so do the board for sticking with him even when things got tough. And now, they appear to be reaping the rewards of their patience.

As reported by The Mirror, Solskjaer appears set to be offered a contract extension worth £9 million a year, with his current deal set to enter its final year soon. This will be an upgrade on the reported £7 million a year that he currently earns at Old Trafford.

And to be honest, based on the side’s performances over the past year or so, he certainly deserves it.

The next step for Solskjaer is to guide Manchester United to a trophy

Solskjaer might have done a great job in improving the team. But he is yet to win a trophy during his time as a manager at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils certainly have a chance of doing that this season as they are still competing in three competitions. They are second in the Premier League behind Manchester City although Pep Guardiola’s side do have a healthy lead at the top of the table.

The FA Cup is another competition that they are still in, where they will face Leicester City in the quarter-finals next Sunday. And finally, they have a Round of 16 second leg tie against AC Milan away at the San Siro with all to play for, after the first leg ended in a 1-1 draw.

Let’s just hope that Solskjaer is now able to take this team a step forward and guide them to a trophy.
