Manchester United find themselves in a sticky situation at the moment. They have done spectacularly this season and currently sit at second in the Premier League table. Thus, the signs are positive on the pitch.

The contracts of a number of their players are quickly running down though and you would have to think that the Red Devils would be eager to keep together the core of this team, before dipping into the transfer market in order to strengthen the squad further. One such player is Eric Bailly.

His current deal has a little over a year left on it and expires in the summer of 2022. Thus, the Red Devils could be forced to make a decision regarding his future soon.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed though, that the club is in the middle of negotiation with Bailly and his representatives. As reported by Manchester United’s official website, the manager said:

"“Yes we are talking to Eric and Eric’s representatives.“He is keeping fitter for longer and you can see his performances as well and I have been very happy with him. His playing style has sometimes made him lose too many games because 100 games that is not enough for the period he has been here. He is getting more and more robust so yes he is one we are talking to.”"

Bailly could extend his stay at Manchester United

The Ivory Coast international has done very well when given the chance and it does appear that his style compliments Harry Maguire better than that of Victor Lindelof. A big worry with him have been injuries though.

As a result, Solskjaer has had to use him keeping his injury history in mind. And the fact that he believes that Bailly is getting more robust is a positive sign.

There is no doubt that when playing and at the top of his game, Bailly is a top player and brings a lot of balance to this side. Unfortunately, he has not featured very regularly over the years and has just 15 appearances to his name this season. But at 26 years of age, he still has a lot of football left in the tank and it would make sense for the Red Devils to keep him at the club.
